4/13/2019 Komen More Than Pink Walk
2019 Komen Ocean City MORE THAN PINK Walk Saturday, April 13, 2019
7:30 am: Celebration Village Opens 8:20 am: Survivor Parade 8:30 am: Open Ceremonies 9 am: Walk Begins
Click Here to Register Ocean City, MD – Susan G. Komen Maryland told supporters to expect some changes at its annual fundraising walk next spring. Komen has been hard at work on the next evolution in the history of the Race for the Cure® series, and residents of the Eastern Shore will be among the first in the country to see it!

Komen Maryland has selected to be one of twenty-six locations across the country to launch the new Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK WalkTM event, which along with a new name will include a fresh new look and experience focused on energizing the community around the lifesaving work Komen’s supporters make possible. This new approach is based on input from participants across the country, data from nine pilot events in 2018, and by Komen’s own observations from years as the leader in breast cancer walks.

“Much of what you have come to love about the Race will continue with our new MORE THAN PINK Walk,” said Michael Jessup, executive director of Komen Maryland, “These changes are intended to increase people’s connection to our work beyond breast cancer awareness.  Together, we are more than pink–a community of people who want to do more for research, more for our communities, more for those among us who are living with breast cancer – including metastatic breast cancer – and more action to get us to cures.”

The biggest difference is that the MORE THAN PINK Walk will not have a separate timed run element, focusing instead on the vast majority of the event’s participants who walk, rather than run, during the event historically. This change will create a greater sense of community among participants and will provide a more personalized, emotional experience for all who attend.  $20 registration fee through Walk Day!

All survivors will receive a complimentary t-shirt and a surprise gift to use in the opening ceremonies. All general participants will receive a surprise gift to use in the open ceremonies but must fundraise $100 to receive a t-shirt.

7/13/2019 Captain Craig Swim
Captain Craig Swim July 13, 2019 6-7:30PM Competitors will swim a measured mile with the prevailing current to a finish line located at 14th Street and the beach. In addition to the annual one mile Boardwalk swim, the Ginny Craig quarter mile swim will take competitors on a 400m distance along the coast and also finish in the area of 14th Street and the beach The event is named in honor of the late Captain Craig who served as Captain of the Ocean City Beach Patrol from 1935-1986. Throughout his 52 years of service to the Town of Ocean City, Captain Craig molded the Ocean City Beach Patrol into what it is today.  One of the first procedures he changed was the training and recruiting process, requiring each person interested in becoming a member of the Ocean City Beach Patrol to fill out a written application and complete a physical assessment. If they successfully completed the test, Captain Craig continued their education, by assigning an experienced guard for further instruction in spotting rip currents, knowledge of waves and what to look for so that preventive measures could be taken before difficulties occurred.  Captain Craig also introduced semaphore to the patrol, and it is still used for communication between guards to supplement radio communication. December 7, 2019 at 8PM Doors Open at 7:30PM Tickets: $65 & $55  For almost thirty years, Country Music Hall of Fame members The Oak Ridge Boys have been a part of their fans' holiday seasons with their annual Christmas tour. The Grammy Award-winning group will play their Shine The Light On Christmas show, Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the Ocean City Maryland Performing Arts Center. A mixture of traditional and contemporary songs—including religious, romantic and fun holiday tunes—makes up the set list, which includes songs from the Oaks’ seven bestselling Christmas CDs. A highlight of the evening is the much-loved ‘rocking chair’ segment where each BOY rocks by the fireplace and shares personal thoughts about Christmas. Oaks’ lead singer, Duane Allen, says, “Christmas is my favorite time of year. I love the positive things about the season.... the joy, happiness, giving, sharing, time with family, and gifts. The beautiful lights and decorations. Christmas music. Special food. And most of all the true meaning, which, of course, is celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Every year I look forward to taking our Christmas tour all over the USA. I hope everyone will come out this year and celebrate Christmas with The Oak Ridge Boys.” Every time The Oak Ridge Boys step before an audience, they bring over four decades of charted singles and 50 years of tradition to bear on a stage show widely acknowledged as among the most exciting anywhere. They have one of the most distinctive and recognizable sounds in the music industry. Their string of hits includes the pop chart-topper “Elvira,” as well as “Bobbie Sue,” “Dream On,” “Thank God For Kids,” “American Made,” “I Guess It Never Hurts To Hurt Sometimes,” “Fancy Free,” “Gonna Take A Lot Of River” and many others. As of 2015, the cancer death rate for men and women combined had fallen 26% from its peak in 1991. This decline translates to nearly 2.4 million deaths averted during this time period. Overall, more than 15.5 million cancer survivors in America will celebrate a birthday this year.  For more information about reservations, tables & packages, and sponsorship, please contact Dawne Pappas at 443-880-2310 or email dpappo@aol.com.
